YES Woman

I'm still learning, and in recent years I've learned how to say "no" to more things without regret or apology.

It was hard at first - disappointing someone else is never fun or easy. But then, I had one of those blessed lightbulb moments. I realized that by saying "no" to some things, I am saying "yes" to myself.

Every single thing takes time. What's important is to me now is being able to say "yes" to the things that address MY top priorities: my health and fitness, my friends and family, my work and pet projects.

I've learned that it's not only OK for me to be a YES woman, it's the key to balancing my life and reaching my goals.

See what happens

Some of the readers of Houston Woman Magazine have asked me to start a "Beverly Denver" blog - to talk about the new things I find out about, lessons I learn, places I go and the interesting people I meet. In other words, the things that inform, inspire and connect me with others.

It always sounded like a good idea, but until now, I never made creating a personal blog a priority. I was always "just too busy."

But today I got inspired. I had lunch with my good friend, Karen McCullough (yes, that very funny public speaker). Over that meal and during a walk around the three-mile loop at Memorial Park afterwards, we talked a lot about her blog (which is very cool), blogs in general and the "secrets" to getting folks to read them. She encouraged me to experiment with this form of communication and see what happens.

So, I am!
